The LCS Championship grand finals saw a 2018 rematch between Team Liquid and 100 Thieves. With different rosters, the series also saw a different result as 100 Thieves led with a shocking 3-0 victory. This marks the first time the 100 Thieves organization has lifted the LCS trophy and the fifth different team to win the region. Defeating Evil Geniuses, Cloud9, and Team Liquid on their run, 100 Thieves capped off their impressive post-season with a new addition to their trophy case. Leaving with the first seed for Worlds 2021 as well, 100 Thieves can reflect on Summer 2021 well.
How 100 Thieves took over the series
Team Liquid were the heavy favorites going into this final Bo5. With the team showing some impressive macro play, especially from Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in’s roams, many expected TL to walk away with their fifth trophy. What TL did not anticipate was Celik “Closer” Can’s incredible performances on Viego and Lee Sin.
The Turkish jungler was a regular season MVP candidate, though 토토사이트 certainly earned the finals MVP. Enabling almost every play on the map, Closer was integral to all three of 100 Thieves’ landslide victories. Though all 100 Thieves members looked impressive, as Felix “Abbedagge” Braun also dominated his lane, Closer was a clear cut above the rest.
100 Thieves’ first title – a long time coming?
For some, this title came rather quickly in their LCS careers. Abbedagge found his first title in only his first split, while Victor “FBI” Huang and Closer spent only one other year in NA on Golden Guardians. Both relatively young, this is the first of potentially many trophy lifts.
For others, this was a long time coming. Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho has been the most loyal player in the LCS. He is the only player to remain with the same organization since 2018, and first entered the LCS back in 2016. Despite entering the LCS at the top of his game, Ssumday failed to find a title until today. Similarly, Choi “Huhi” Jae-hyun won the LCS in first split but went on a years long drought, finally refreshing his career with another title.
